Red Bird is the mission trip for you!
What is Red Bird?
Red Bird Mission Trip is a one-week experience during the month of July in southeastern Kentucky. Yes, in the hollows of Kentucky. This volunteer-based year-round mission provides home repair for low-income community residents as well as maintenance on the mission buildings and grounds.
Teams from the church perform household repairs for persons in need in the Appalachia region. There is work for those who want to learn to fix roofs, build decks, paint rooms… as well as work for those who prefer to clean, do office work, work in community store*. There is a job for everyone and anyone.
As with any mission this Red Bird Mission trip will help you grow both spiritually and personally.
*Service opportunities in these area’s are limited and must be pre-approved.
What is the Typical Schedule?
- Saturday morning early leave for Kentucky
- Drive to Virginia and Saturday stay overnight in a hosting church
- Breakfast and Church service on Sunday morning before continuing onto Red Bird
- Start working on Monday Morning
- Wednesday is a rejuvenation day to explore and picnic in the area
- Back to work on Thursday and Friday
- Leave on Saturday to arrive home on Saturday Night
It’s a week of intense and intentional Christian community just 14 hours away from home.
What is the cost of participation?
Participants must be at least 14 years of age. There is a fee for each attendee to take part in the experience, cover room and board and purchase the supplies needed to accomplish the assigned tasks. Five fast food meals during travel are not be included in the fees.
The Butler United Methodist congregations runs fund raisers to provide financial support as well as has a daily prayer vigil at the church while the team is in Kentucky.
