The mission of the loaves and Fishes food panty is: No one should ever have to go hungry.
Each month the Butler United Methodist Church Loaves and Fishes ministry feeds 50+ families in our community. Through the direction of Debby Smeilus, the help of volunteers and in partnership with other local food pantries in the Triboro community, the pantry has grown to insure everyone in our community who comes to us gets fed.
Anyone in Need is welcome!! There is no shame in asking for help. Life circumstances sometimes creates a times of need.
Our pantry is typically open the last Saturday and the Monday night following the last Saturday of each Month. Due to holidays the distribution days may adjust, * marks the changes.
Hours of Distribution are:
Saturdays 9:00am – 12:30pm and Mondays 7:00pm – 9:00pm
The 2022 distribution days are as follows:
Our volunteers accept the food donations, sort the food, bag the food and prepare for the monthly distributions. We also need volunteers on distribution days and special holiday food and gift giving distributions. Some of the tasks on these days include:
- Set-up at 8am on the distributions dates
- 9-12:30pm staffing the pantry hours
- Greeting shoppers
- Cleaning up at 12:30 on distribution dates
Bilingual volunteers would be helpful however anyone with a giving heart is welcome.
All of our volunteers are very sensitive to people’s privacy and will do whatever we can to ensure anonymity of recipients.
