Well-ness Words: Mind, Body & Soul

by Iraida Ruiz de Porras @ Grounds for Sculpture, Hamilton, NJ

We are related to each other.

By taking care of myself, I take care of you.

By taking care of you, I take care of myself.

This is my prayer for knowing how to help.

–Elena Brower

Observe the image above.  Read the quote by Elena Brower.

What draws your attention?

What relation, if any, is there between the image and the quote?

What feelings emerge from your observation?

What part of your body is affected by your feelings?

Sit with that part of your body for a moment.

Show yourself some compassion in your body that you feel is affected.  Offer it a gentle massage, a warm embrace, a prayer.

Is there an invitation to self-care?  Care for others?

How might you take care of yourself today?

How might you take care of others from a distance?

Let us pray.  Relational God, we were not created to live isolated from one another but made to be in a relationship with one another and a relationship with you.  We share your compassion for us and offer it to ourselves and one another.  When we feel helpless, please help us.  When we feel hopeless, please show us your hope.  When we feel isolated, transform it into an intimate time of solitude with you.  Thank you for this day and the opportunity to love ourselves, our neighbors, and you.  In Christ’s name, we pray.  Amen.

In Christ,

Pastor Iraida
